Ex-Boarders are different!
Standard counselling may not always address the experiences of boarding school directly. In sessions for ex-boarders, the focus is on the specific patterns, emotional habits, and relational challenges that often come from life in boarding school. This is a space where your history is understood, your questions are taken seriously, and you can explore your sense of self without judgment.
Here, you can start to make sense of your past, understand how it shapes your present, and take steps toward a life that feels authentically yours.
My approach is humanistic: the work is grounded in the present moment, in safety, in helping you feel what could not be felt then, and in supporting you to build a life that is not run by the systems you had to adapt to as a child.
In this work we don’t pathologise those adaptations — we understand them as what kept you safe in an environment that did not protect your emotional life. The focus is on what happens next: how to live now without needing those old survival strategies
Your first counselling session
It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous about starting counselling. The first session is a gentle way to begin — there’s no pressure to say anything before you’re ready.
Safe space
Our time together is about creating a safe, private space where you can talk openly and feel heard without judgement. In this first meeting, I’ll invite you to share a little about what’s brought you to counselling and what you hope to get from it. You don’t need to have everything worked out — many people simply know that something doesn’t feel right and want some space to explore it.
Working together
I’ll also explain how counselling works, including confidentiality and what you can expect from me. We can talk about what you might find helpful, and you’re welcome to ask any questions about the process.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer sense of how we might work together and whether this feels like the right fit for you. There’s no obligation to continue — it’s entirely your choice.

Next Steps
If you choose to book a free introductory session, we’ll have a relaxed conversation to see if working together feels right. You can share what brings you here, ask any questions, and get a sense of my approach.
Counselling sessions are 50 minutes, held weekly at the same time each week. This consistency helps build trust and rhythm — important foundations when the past has taught us to expect change or distance.
You’re free to take things at your own pace. Some people come for a few months; others stay longer as they explore deeper themes. There’s no fixed commitment — we can review our work regularly to make sure it’s meeting your needs.
Online Set-Up
Sessions take place on Google Meet, so you can connect from home or any private space. Before your first session, I’ll email you a secure link and a few simple guidelines to help you feel prepared.
Try to find a quiet, comfortable spot where you won’t be interrupted. Headphones can help with privacy and focus. You don’t need to be technically confident — I’ll talk you through anything you’re unsure about.
Many people find online therapy surprisingly personal and grounding. The distance of the screen can sometimes make it easier to share, while still allowing for real connection and presence.
What Happens If You Feel Stuck
It’s completely natural to feel uncertain or stuck at times — especially when touching experiences of separation, loss or emotional survival. If that happens, we slow down together and notice what’s happening for you.
There’s no right pace or “goal” to reach. Feeling stuck often signals that something important is trying to be understood. My role is to help you stay safe and curious enough to explore it, without pressure or judgment.
If at any point you want to pause, review our work, or change direction, we can do that openly. Therapy is a collaborative process — you don’t have to manage it alone.
